Olive harvest

The art of the harvest: the process that transforms Umbria’s green gold

⚠️ Please note: The olive harvest is a seasonal and variable event. It typically takes place between the end of October and the beginning of November, but the exact dates depend strictly on the yield, the climate, and other natural factors. We invite you to check availability and precise dates with our staff.

Umbria, the green heart of Italy, boasts a thousand-year-old olive growing tradition, famous not for the quantity, but for the exceptional quality of its extra virgin olive oil (EVOO). Our family has been harvesting olives for generations and approaches the work with passion and respect for the land. To fully preserve the organoleptic properties and guarantee a superior oil, at Casale Castro we adopt the method of manual selection or the use of mechanical shakers. From tree to press, every step is natural. Once collected, the olives are immediately transported to the mill and subjected to cold pressing within just a few hours.

An authentic experience: living the olive harvest at Casale Castro

At our farmhouse, oil is not just a condiment—it is a story to be lived. We invite you to immerse yourself in this tradition with our harvest experience.

You will spend an unforgettable day alongside our family, starting work early in the morning in the field and actively participating in the harvest. You will learn to spread the nets and to collect the fruits (the olives), breathing in the intense scents of the countryside.

Around noon, we will all gather for a first substantial breakfast (a convivial meal), which you can share with our family and the other "workers" of the day. Work will resume immediately afterward, until 3:00 PM (15:00).

At the end of the harvest, the effort turns into a true feast: a rustic and convivial lunch (that lasts until evening) awaits you, where you will taste the freshly pressed oil on warm bread. Discover authentic flavors, directly from our farmhouse. This is not just olive oil, it is liquid gold. It is a complete sensory and community experience that connects you to the land and the authenticity that defines life at Casale Castro.

Furthermore, as a complimentary gift for your participation, you will receive a bottle of the oil that you helped produce.

Trekking

Cherry Tree Trail

Straight from the trails surrounding Casale Castro, we invite you to discover our "Cherry Tree Trail" (Percorso dei Ciliegi), a panoramic loop that embodies the beauty of our Umbrian land.

This trek is the perfect activity for those who wish to combine a love for nature with the discovery of local flavors. The path winds through our olive groves and broad-leaved woods, but it is the crossing of the old cherry orchard that makes it special, especially in spring when the blossoms transform the landscape into a canvas of white and pink.

  • The View of the Village: After a gentle initial ascent, you reach a panoramic point that offers a breathtaking view of the red rooftops of the nearby village and the valley below—an ideal backdrop for a photo stop.

  • The Old Fountain: Along the path, you will encounter an ancient stone fountain, a testament to the area's rural history.

  • Olive Grove Areas: The route passes close to our olive groves, allowing you to observe up close the plants that produce the EVO Oil you will taste at our table.

The "Cherry Tree Trail" is an invitation to slow down and connect with nature. It is an excursion that requires no specific experience (Easy/Medium level) and always leads you back to the warmth of our farmhouse.
